Speaking of New Year’s Resolutions…

By January 4, 2016Uncategorized

We recently read an article from Forbes.com, titled “How Small Business Owners Are Wrecking Their Own Chances Of Success.”  Despite the strongly-worded lead, author Erika Andersen nailed a common issue for small businesses everywhere: marketing, social media and web presence.

Let’s face it — as a small business owner, there are so many other tasks that demand your attention every day, including the products you sell and services you provide. Marketing the business ends up on the back burner for months at a time as a result, and according to this article from Yodle, more than half of small business owners do not have a website or measure the results of their marketing campaigns.

Unfortunately, those decisions can hurt your business.

“I know that when I’m looking for a local business to deal with – from a handyman to a florist, a restaurant to a seamstress – the first place I look is online,” Andersen wrote.  “And if I find that the store or restaurant or service provider doesn’t have a website – or has one that clearly hasn’t been updated since 2003, or doesn’t provide an email address or phone number on the home page – I discount it immediately. I assume (rightly or wrongly) that the enterprise is unprofessional and low quality.”
